Two Wes Anderson films in one year?! That’s correct as he directs the Wonderful World of Henry Sugar and Netflix release the official Trailer.
Benedict Cumberbatch is our titular character Henry Sugar. September in fact will be Roald Dahl short film month with three other shorts coming. The others are The Swan, The Rat Catcher, and Poison which Anderson has also directed.
The films will rotate the cast: With Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Richard Ayoade, Rupert Friend, and Saif Mohsen all starring.
The 39 minute film recently made it’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Those look more favourable than the director’s full length film, Asteroid City. The short’s premise is based around Henry who meets a mystic who can see things without opening his eyes. Henry wants to learn the skill not to do good, but to cheat in gambling and pretend it was ‘all in chance’.
For this, greed seems to be a running theme and also any lessons we may learn. As ever this looks a visual treat for Wes Anderson fans as well as Roald Dahl.
A beloved Roald Dahl story about a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.
The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar will be launched on Netflix from 27th September.
