Benedict Cumberbatch Role In STAR TREK 2 Been Revealed?

“My God Jim!” It looks like Karl Urban has let slip one of Star Trek sequels best kept secrets. Has he revealed Benedict Cumberbatch Role In STAR TREK 2 Been Revealed? Right up until today we’ve known Mr Cumberbatch is going to be Star Trek 2 villain but past that knowledge everything has been speculation with many believing he was going to play one of the franchises infamous nemesis Khan or Khaaaan!!! Trekkies worldwide maybe a light disappointed however  Urban has revealed  he will be…….Gary Mitchell!

In an interview with SFX Karl Urban who plays Dr Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy in  Star Trek was talking to the magazine about his upcoming film Dredd when he accidentally let one slip revealing the British actor’s role in Star Trek 2 when asked briefly about the film.

“He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary.”

Oops! Who is Gary Mitchell you may ask? Trekkies will know who is but for us non trekkies Gary Mitchell was a former friend of James Kirk’s at Starfleet Academy we first in the first season of the original tv series in the episode named Where No Man Has Gone Before . On a mission to a planet Mitchell get hit by a galactic barrier which gives him godlike powers becoming dangerous to everyone onboard the Enterprise.

The question is, did Karl Urban really accidentally reveal something he shouldn’t have or was it a big misdirection to put us all on a wild goose chase? the images we saw several month ago suggest that Cumberbatch is a regular human rather than a Alien plus shows possible connection to Starfleet. JJ Abrams is a master of misdirection  and has lead many up garden paths before as has writer Robert Orci who once said Gary Mitchell won’t be in Star Trek 2 then he did also say Megatron wasn’t going to be in Transformer:Revenge of The Fallen and we know what happened there. Comic Con is next week Universal Pictures will be there, chances that things will be confirmed may happen but with the film due out May 2013 we may just have to wait a little longer to find out.
