Avengers: Doomsday won’t feature Scarlet Witch says Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen dishes on Avengers: Doomsday

Avengers: Doomsday is powering up for release in 2026 but one fan-favourite character won’t be along for the ride. Scarlet Witch actor Elizabeth Olsen has seemingly confirmed that she will sit out this pivotal entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which acts as the second instalment in Marvel Phase Six.

Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen was asked if Avengers: Doomsday filmmakers, the Russo Brothers, would be “extending her stay in London” where the movie is due to be shot. She then replied, “No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].”

This seems to be a tacit admission of her absence from both Avengers: Doomsday and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars. Olsen has been with the MCU since 2014 when Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, made a post-credits cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Olsen has subsequently appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), the Disney+ series WandaVision (2012), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).

In November 2024, Olsen said (via Deadline), “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well… If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back.”

Avengers: Doomsday will showcase Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr.’s much-vaunted return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, confirmed at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con. It’s a sign of how the MCU has recalibrated following the controversy around Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors.

Avengers: Doomsday is due for release on 1st May, 2026 with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on 7th May, 2027.
