Arrow Video Channel Set To Release Frightfest’s The Stylist

The Stylist (2020)

Arrow Video are set to premiere writer/director Jill Gevargizian assured debut feature The Stylist, a sleek and inventive psychological thriller starring the fabulous Najarra Townsend (Contracted) as a brilliant but shy hairdresser with an extremely dark secret. Set for an 2021 March premiere before being released on Blu-ray and DVD later that Summer.

A hit on the festival circuit in 2020 (including Sitges and Arrow Video FrightFest), Screen Anarchy describes the film as โ€œa stellar debut from and director Gevargizianโ€. Developed from her popular 2016 short, Gevargizianโ€™s film, along with the likes of Prevenge, The Columnist and Promising Young Woman, herald a new era of startlingly original and socially relevant thrillers with women front and centre.

Featuring a truly memorable and unexpectedly moving central performance from Townsend (who won the Best Actress award from Total Film magazine at this year’s Arrow Video FrightFest), with support from the excellent Brea Grant (After Midnight) The Stylist is sharply observed and erm, stylishly made. An astute study of loneliness and obsession, Gevargizian takes everyday situations – grabbing a coffee, sending a text, having a haircut, and a girls night out – and imbues them with a deliciously macabre flavour. Be warned though – thereโ€™s quite a lot of red stuff flying around and itโ€™s not hair dye!

The Stylist centres on Claire who works in a small salon obsessing over the lives of her glamorous customers to the point of wanting to be them โ€“ by removing their scalps and wearing them like wigs. But when one of her regular customers, Olivia (Brea Grant), asks Claire to look after her hair for her upcoming wedding, she soon finds herself being drawn deeper into Oliviaโ€™s circle of friends, risking exposing her murderous secrets.

You can watch The Stylist first, exclusively on Arrow Video Channel from March 1st 2021, before being released on premium Blu-ray and Digital HD in June 2021. The channel will be launching as a standalone SVOD service early 2021 at www.ARROW-Player.com instead of the usual Amazon Prime route
