Argo and Les Miserable come out trumps as big winners at last night’s 70th Golden Globes ceremony seen as a precursor to the Oscars and Ben Affleck bagging himself a gong for best director and best motion picture.

Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables was another big winner grabbing the awards for best movie in musicial or comedy, Best Actor (Hugh Jackman) and Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway).Daniel Day Lewis won best actor in Lincoln despite mixed reviews stateside (out 25th January in UK), its still the most nominated film so far, Armour won best foreign film and should bag the Oscar next month. The most shocked of the night was Adele who won  Best Original Song for Skyfall, a song she only decided to recorded at last minute but as the last 12-18 months have been for the British singer it’s no surprise she’s still winning the plaudits and will probably bag more accolades.

Seven time Golden Globe winner Jodie Foster  won the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. It was an emotional speech which included her confirmation Hollywood’s most open secret about her personal life, Jodie well done! (speech below). It was not al about the big screen American television where honoured last night with Breaking Bad, Modern Family and Downton Abbey all picking up gongs including best supporting actress for Dame Maggie Smith. For second year running Homeland ran away for some of the big awards including best actress for Claire Danes and best actor for Brit Damian Lewis.

Compared to previous years the ceremony was a little more low key with no Ricky Gervais making life uncomfortable for nominees, so the night went to  Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. With no Ricky in the building the crudeness may have disappeared but our genial hosts made sure the celebrity knew the score and everyone from George Clooney to Sacha Baron Cohen felt the light hearted forced of Fey and Poehlr.
