Dragon Ball Season 5 **** 1/2
Piccolo Jnr. Saga Parts 1 and 2
Dragon Ball Season 5 takes off in the aftermath of the epic battle with Piccolo, Goku embarks on an electrifying quest to rescue his fallen friends from the realm of the dead. His perilous journey will take him to the heights of Korin Tower – and beyond – as he searches for Kami, a mystical being with the power to resurrect Shenron and restore the magic of the seven Dragon Balls! But even if Goku succeeds in raising the dead, there’s no guarantee he’ll live long enough to enjoy a reunion with his slain comrades. The World Martial Arts tournament is just around the corner, and an eerily familiar foe known only as Junior wants to teach Goku the true meaning of pain! To survive the tournament and finally earn the title of World’s Greatest Martial Artist, Goku must train his mind as well as his body in order to complete his amazing transformation from a bushy-tailed boy into a man to be reckoned with!
In this Season we see Goku grow into an adult, not only that, a superb fighter.
Stronger, faster, and more intune with his senses.
As he undergoes training as a child with Mr. Popo, a challenging opponent. With news that the World Martial Arts Tournament will be underway in just three years, and there he’ll be fighting a fearsome foe.
Not only has Goku undergone significant training, but Yamcha, Krillin, Tien, and Chiaotzu have also undergone training with Korin.
The fight scenes are brilliant as always. A little drawn out but then again we have to consider the time-frame these were brought out in; Weekly.
They may seem drawn out but if we were to watch one per week it is intense.
As each participant enters the tournament we see not only action, but comedy, and even a bit of romance as Chi Chi makes her return.
Fight between Goku and Piccolo Junior is and always will be epic.
After the battle is done and dusted, without giving too many spoilers away we move onto an important side story involving the Ox King and his home. Goku must retrieve the Bancho Fan to put out an unstoppable fire and save the day and also a certain dress.
I’m going to give Dragon Ball Season 5 4.5 Stars. The story line is clear and concise, without much deviation. The animation is great, even though it has been remastered it holds it’s originality. The fight scenes are brilliant as always, a little drawn out if you watch it over a week, but if you watch it as it was released the feeling dissipates.
For the bonus features, there wasn’t that many per disc, then again there are 4 discs.
Overall it is a brilliant must see anime.
