Animal Friends Moves To Early 2027
The animated/live-action hybrid has been pushed back again.
Warner Bros has moved the release date of its upcoming live-action hybrid movie Animal Friends to January 22, 2027.
It’s not the first time they’ve done so, with the original date being October 10 2025, before again moving it to May this year. It’s unclear why the film has been moved so many times, but Deadline is reporting that it’s due to talent availability for press.
The cast includes the likes of Ryan Reynolds,ย Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, Addison Rae and Ellie Bamber.
The movie was directed by Peter Atencio (Key and Peele) and written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. It originally jumped from Sony to Warner Bros after Legendaryโs deal at the Culver City lot ended. Animal Friends is currently the only major studio title on that date so far, joining Bleecker Streetโs The Third Parentย and Cineverseโsย Air Bud Returns.
The logline for the film reads: ‘Two fugitive animals embark on an adventure across America to find the ranch that was once their home, healing their friendship while pursued by an equally โodd-coupleโ DEA agent and Fish and Wildlife ranger with something to prove.’
It was originally scheduled to be released in the United States on August 15, 2025, by Sony Pictures Releasing under Columbia Pictures. It was later announced on December 9, 2024, that distribution rights had shifted to Warner Bros. Pictures, which scheduled the film for a theatrical release on October 10, 2025, before being pushed back to May 1, 2026, and then pushed again to June 5, 2026.
Animal Friends is out in cinemas on the 22nd January 2027.
