In 1980s rural Italy, a rag-tag group of grave robbers search for lost Etruscan treasures, led by the wistful, laconic Arthur (Josh O’Connor) who is mourning the loss of his beloved Beniamina. His otherworldly talents are used by the group in order to procure ancient artefacts to sell on the black market, but his quest to bridge the gap between past and present has far higher stakes.
While he’s staying at the once-beautiful home of Beniamina’s mother (Isabella Rossellini), who indulges his tendency to revel in the past, Arthur unexpectedly meets the young Italia (Carol Duarte), whose friendship spurs him to look forward as he inches closer and closer to an illuminating discovery.
The film also stars Isabella Rossellini, Carol Duarte, Alba Rohrwacher, Vincenzo Nemolato, and Lou Roy-Lecollinet. La Chimera will stream exclusively on MUBI from 2nd August in the UK and Ireland.
