Avengers Doomsday: Alan Cumming Talks ‘Healing’ Return To Nightcrawler
In a recent chat with People, Alan Cumming described returning to the role of Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday as โreally healing.โ This was in stark contrast to what he called the โmiserableโ filming of X2.
The two-time Emmy winner and host of The Traitors USA first played the character in the 2003 film. He is now confirmed to reprise the blue-skinned, teleporting Kurt Wagner in the upcoming Marvel movie. Cumming said he had โjust finishedโ shooting earlier this month. He added that the experience felt โooey, gooeyโ but ultimately positive. โIt was healing and nice to go back to something that had been a terrible experience the first time,โ he explained. Cumming has spoken many times before about the difficulties of working under director Bryan Singer on X2.
However, he found the new project to be a complete change. โIt was great to go back,โ he said. He also joked about the physical challenge of the role. โIโm 60 years old. I did not think I would be doing stunts, playing a superhero in my 60s. So that was great.โ He said the cast and crew were welcoming, and the schedule worked out well despite his other commitments. Most of his scenes were filmed quickly using green screens and small setups with other actors because of The Traitors USA.
Although plot details remain sparse, it has been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will appear as supervillain Dr. Doom. Other confirmed cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Florence Pugh, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, Wyatt Russell, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Several original X-Men stars will also return, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, and James Marsden.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on December 18th, 2026.
