Adam Driver Set To Play In Jeff Nichols Yankee Comandante?

Four Years after the pair worked on sci-fi film Midnight Special, it looks like Jeff Nichols and Adam Driver are to reunite for Yankee Comandante.

Variety are reporting the Oscar-nominated actor is line to be the lead role. A film which is based around David Grann’s New Yorker  article, which was published in 2012. Story all about an American, William Alexander Morgan, who rose to the rank of comandante alongside Che Guevara in the 1960s during the Cuban Revolution that helped bring Fidel Castro to power.

Two people rose to the rank of Comandante in the Cuban Revolution. One was Che Guevara. The other was a man from Ohio; this is his story. Both men foreigners, Morgan slowly became a shadowy suspicious figure imprisoned. Charged for being a spy for the U.S intelligence, facing death by firing squad. Was he a double agent also working for J Edgar Hoover, who found it difficult to know what side he was on.

This looks a fantastic role for Driver whose career has excelled the past few years. All thanks to his roles in the recent Star Wars franchise films and the Report. Netflix’s Marriage Story which saw him be nominated for Best Actor in this year’s Oscars. Before the worldwide shutdown of the industry he was filming Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel along side Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Nichols will direct the film based on a script written by himself. Imperative Entertainment and 30 West are currently looking for a studio who will buy the project. Production is due to start in 2021, however Coronavirus pandemic may see the production delayed.
