Acclaimed Indie The Novice ‘Rowing Home’ In May

THE NOVICE_[TODD MARTIN]

After a short UK cinematic release, Vertigo Releasing are set to give Lauren Hadaway‘s intense psychological drama The Novice starring Isabelle Fuhrman a Digital release in May.

Alex (Fuhrman), a college freshman who joins her University rowing team. She wants to make it to the varsity boat and embarks on a extreme physical and psychological journey to make sure she gets there whatever the cost.

This film caught myself by surprise and like Jaws, it’s not a film about a shark, The Novice is not a film about rowing. It was the surprise film at March’s Glasgow Film Festival and highlighted the destructive nature of obsession. Our writer Freda Cooper watched the film at BFI Flare describing “The film has a grip like one of the crabs that keep floating into her imagination. Sharp, tenacious and painful”.

You can read Freda’s full review by going to the link below the official Trailer. Freda recently spoke to the director Lauren Hadaway about her film, you can watch that interview here.

Vertigo Releasing have also sent us a new teaser clip, which shows Alex learning the true meaning of the rowing term ‘Crab‘…
