Abel Ferrara’s iconic neo-noir Bad Lieutenant Getting A 4K Release

Abel Ferrara’s iconic neo-noir Bad Lieutenant is finally getting UK 4K UHD release thanks to 101 Films.

The film will be released as Title 045 on the 101 Films Black Label.  It starred Harvey Keitel , Zoe Lund,Victor Argo,  Frankie Thorn and Paul Calderon.

Bad Lieutenant was released in 1992 and is rightly lauded as a key work of 90s independent cinema, often praised for its raw, fearless portrayal of moral decay and personal torment. Written by Ferrara and Zoë Lund, it was produced independently with a modest budget, the film was shot guerrilla style on location in New York City, using real streets, buildings, and members of the public, often without a permit. Despite it’s troubles, the film earned critical acclaim and developed strong word-of-mouth buzz, especially in art-house circuits leading to it becoming the iconic film it is today.

The release will be packed with additional content, including new interviews with director Abel Ferrara, his frequent collaborator cinematographer Ken Kelsch and a new piece revisiting the
shooting locations of Bad Lieutenant. Also included are archive extras from previous releases, including an excellent making of featurette and a commentary track with Ferrara and Kelsch.

For twenty years, he has ruled the streets—gambling, stealing, using, killing. A corrupt, drug-addicted New York City cop spirals deeper into vice while investigating the brutal assault of a young nun. As the case forces him to confront his own sins, he walks the line of self-destruction and the elusive promise of
redemption.
