Tom Hanks is your captain as Universal Pictures release the UK Trailer for Western News Of The World. As he looks for somewhere to ‘belong’ in post civil war America.
The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Paulette Jiles. Set five years after the American Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kidd (Hanks), war vet who is now a storyteller. Travelling town to town reading the news with townsfolk he crosses paths with a young girl. Johanna a 10 year old who was brought up by the Kiowa people raised as one of their own. Kyle takes the girl to her aunt and uncle against her will.
German actress playing the young girl is Helena Zengel who will be known as the star of System Crasher. Once again she looks fantastic as does this film, which is also Mr.Hanks first foray into the Western genre. Hands up If you thought this film was about the disgraced defunct newspaper?
Five years after the end of the Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Hanks), a veteran of three wars, now moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, sharing the news of presidents and queens, glorious feuds, devastating catastrophes, and gripping adventures from the far reaches of the globe.
In the plains of Texas, he crosses paths with Johanna (Helena Zengel, System Crasher), a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. Johanna, hostile to a world she’s never experienced, is being returned to her biological aunt and uncle against her will.
Kidd agrees to deliver the child where the law says she belongs. As they travel hundreds of miles into the unforgiving wilderness, the two will face tremendous challenges of both human and natural forces as they search for a place that either can call home.
The film also stars Elizabeth Marvel, Mare Winningham, Neil Sandilands, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Christopher Hagen with Paul Greengrass directing.
News Of The World will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 1st January 2021.
