Forbidden love prevails in the first Trailer for Francis Lee’s Ammonite starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. The much anticipated follow up film to God’s Own Country, a film that was set to premiere at the now cancelled Cannes Film Festival, now heading to Toronto Film Festival.
Like his debut film, this film is once again is been a film that should be in the running for The Oscars. Could this film be the film finally get Lee Oscar glory?
Kate Winslet stars as paleontologist and fossil hunter Mary Anning. She befriends young woman played by Ronan who at first she clashes with but slowly forms a bond that becomes an passionate affair.
This looks like a film that could easily compliment Portrait Of A Lady On Fire. It shares similar parallels to critically acclaimed film from the era and to two women involved in a lesbian affair. The film does come with controversy, with Anning’s living family members saying there was no ‘evidence’ that Mary was gay. Lee has stated the film isn’t a biopic but inspired by her life…

Lionsgate Films will be releasing Ammoninte in the UK but no release date has been confirmed yet. Neon Pictures will release the film in USA from 13th November.
