Noël Coward is a legendary name of stage, screen and music. In 21st Century one of his classics is making a big screen return, Blithe Spirit. Today Studiocanal have released the UK Trailer for the a riotous reimagining of the classic West End Stage play.

Dan Stevens stars as a pretentious crime novelist Charles who is suffering from writers block. He has a wife (Isla Fisher) who wants to descend into Hollywood fame, Charles needs inspiration. He invite eccentric medium Madame Arcati (Judi Dench) to perform a séance. She accidentally summons a a spirit from Charles past whose ready to cause trouble for all especially Charles.

I can’t fathom a time I’ve seen Judi Dench been so wacky and having great fun. The spirit of Noël Coward is certainly alive and well, screwball comedy at it’s best!

Best-selling crime novelist Charles (Dan Stevens) is struggling with catastrophic writer’s block and a stressful deadline for his first screenplay. His picture-perfect second wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) is doing her best to keep him focussed in the hope of fulfilling her dream of heading to Hollywood. Charles’ desperate search for inspiration leads him to invite Madame Arcati (Judi Dench), a medium recently exposed as a fraud, to perform a séance in their home. They all get more than they bargained for when Arcati accidentally summons the spirit of his deceased first wife: the fiery and jealous Elvira (Leslie Mann) who embarks on a mission to kill Charles so she can spend eternity with him which leads to an increasingly comical and deadly love triangle.

The film also stars Leslie Mann, Emilia Fox, Callie Cooke, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Julian Rhind-Tutt, James Fleet, and Simon Kunz. The film is also directed by Downton Abbey‘s Edward Hall.

Blithe Spirit will be released in the UK and Ireland on 1st May.
