It devastated our hearts at BFI London Film Festival, early next year Céline Sciamma‘s Portrait Of A Lady On Fire will arrive in UK Cinemas. Today Curzon Cinema have released the UK Trailer that will sear you’re heart.

Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant star in this film, a story set in Eighteenth Century France. A Story of an Female artist who falls in love with her model for her painting.

The film received its World Premiere at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival where it won awards for both the Queer Palm and Best Screenplay. The love would have been considered taboo, forbidden in the time film is set in. Great to see a film highlighting same sex relationships are not new, and delivered in a searing and profound way.

The film follows the story of a female painter, who, after being sent to an isolated island in Bretagne at the end of the eighteenth century, is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman in secret. Brittany, France 1770. Portrait painter Marianne (Merlant) is commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Héloïse (Haenel), a reluctant bride to be who has just left the convent. The painting must be done in secret, and so Marianne observes her by day and paints by night. Intimacy and attraction grow between the two women, but their freedom is short-lived.

The film co-stars Luàna Bajrami, Valeria Golino, Christel Baras, Armande Boulanger, Guy Delamarche, and Clément Bouyssou.

Portrait Of A Lady On Fire will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas, plus Curzon Home Cinema from 28th February 2020.
