Think Like A ‘Crazy’ In David Fincher’s Netflix Show Mindhunter

Crime and David Fincher, history has shown it’s a match made in heaven when it comes to crime thrillers and in Autumn he returns to the genre. The director behind Se7en, Zodiac, The Girl With Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl wants us to think ‘crazy’ when his new TV Show Mindhunter will be out exclusively on Netflix. Today the streaming giants have sent us the show’s trailer and it’s not easy butchering people…it’s hard work!

Mindhunter is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas. We see many tv shows even movies go after the psychopaths, killers, nut jobs the police go after but many rarely try to understand the mindset of those ‘crazies’.

Fincher has directed the pilot episode and from the trailer, it has all the tropes we expect from one of his movies. Cold, mundane, gritty that harks back to Zodiac even a feel of True Detective which makes Fincher a perfect season Kickstarter. Great to see Jonathan Groff getting a more lead role than usual, hopefully, a springboard to bigger and better things for the actor.

The series is set in 1979 which could benefit the show as we see the police in their infancy from the technology they have nowadays. An era when the psychologists had battle into the minds of the crazies and the book this show is based on also inspired Silence Of The Lambs. Does this suggest the type of monsters our cops will go after?

How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks? Two FBI agents (Jonathan Groff & Holt McCallany) set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers.

Mindhunter is also directed by Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?) with Charlize Theron on board as executive producer. The series will premiere globally on Netflix from 13th October.
