With the increase in apps and internet sites being used to meet a potential mate it is somewhat refreshing to see a film focus on a blind date the way Lake Bell and Simon Pegg’s latest, Man Up does. After all, there is no photoshopped avatar to judge anyone from, just two like-minded people hoping to fall in love. What could possibly go wrong? That is of course the premise for the new film from the man behind the first Inbetweeners film, Ben Palmer, featuring a whole host of British comedic talent.
Synopsis: Meet Nancy (Lake Bell): 34, single (still), hung-over (again), and exhausted by the endless futile set ups foisted upon her by well-meaning but clueless friends. As she travels across London to toast another 10 years of her parent’s blissfully happy marriage, 40 year old, freshly-hatched divorcee Jack (Simon Pegg) mistakes her for his 24 year old blind date. In a moment of uncharacteristic optimism (or insanity?), Nancy decides to just go with it… What follows is a chaotic, unconventional, hilarious night neither of them will ever forget.
In the new poster for the film (you can view the trailer here) Bell and Pegg really show off their photo booth poses, reflecting the old-fashioned (selfie-less) style of the film.
Man Up also stars Rory Kinnear, Olivia Williams, Sharon Horgan, Ken Stott, Ophelia Lovibond, and Stephen Campbell Moore, and is released in UK cinemas on 29th May.
