You would think a movie which stars Helen Mirren would have a decent chance doing well at the box office, well think again. Love Ranch which stars fellow oscar winner Joe Pesci withย  Oscar Winning director/producer Taylor Hackford (who is also married to Mirren) directing you would think the movie would have a chance but the movie opened in June in USA and it flopped.

Love Ranch is a bittersweet love story that turns explosive when the players in a romantic triangle lose control and cross the line. Set in the late-1970s, depicting larger than life personalities living on the edge, Love Ranch stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci as Grace Bontempo and Charlie Bontempo, the husband and wife team who own and run Nevadaโ€™s first legalized brothel.

Their lives are suddenly altered when Armando Bruza, a husky, world famous heavy weight boxer from South America, played by hot up-and-coming Spanish actor Sergio Peris-Mencheta, is brought to the Ranch to train as part of Charlieโ€™s ever-expanding entrepreneurial empire. Plans quickly go awry when Bruza comes between Grace and Charlie as an unforeseen love triangle develops that erupts into uncontrollable passion and murder.

The movie cost about $10 millionย  dollars to make and since its release stateside it has took in around $135,000 (ยฃ90,000) in box office sales which is a total disaster and the movie was due for a cinematic release in UK but now the movie looks likely to go direct to DVD. Looking at the other stories about this movie the report source seems to be from the untrustworthy lowlife Sun newspaper so I do expect some exaggeration in the story however the movie does look like it was a flop but if it was as bad reports say I cant confirm.

Reports also say Helen Mirren did spend time with real prostitutes in Nevada USA to prep herself for the role but even the talk of one of UK’s most repsected actress in the nude can’t convince people to turn out in their droves. I’ve posted the movie’s trailer let you see what you think of the movie.
