A Sequel to The Simpsons Movie is officially in the works at Disney’s 20th Century after an announcement today revealed it will release in cinemas on July 23, 2027. The newly announced film has taken the place of an untitled Marvel project, which has since been removed from the studio’s schedule.

So far, Disney and 20th Century haven’t confirmed any plot details. The shared poster on Instagram features the tagline ‘Homer’s coming back for seconds’ alongside the signature pink donut. The Simpsons is the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television and follows the lives of the Simpson family, including dad Homer, mom Marge, and kids Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. In July 2007, a feature film called The Simpsons Movie was released to massive commercial success, earning $536 million at the global box office from a $75 million budget. It saw Springfield being confined under a massive glass dome after Homer accidentally pollutes the town’s lake.

The show was created by Matt Groening and features a voice cast that includes the likes of Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith, Harry Shearer, and more. No details about the cast have been confirmed at this time, but it is widely believed that the core voice cast will return for the sequel.
