If anyone says critics always sway the opinion of the average cinema goer think again, as one of the most critically panned films Need For Speed is on course to get a sequel!

It was seen by some as a possible replacement potential franchise for Fast&Furious which is now getting stronger with recent release of movie seven . Despite only making just over $200 million worldwide box office sales (on a $66 million budget), Electronic Arts and Chinese partners Chinese Movie Channel, Jiaflix, 1905.c0m are hoping to make the sequel a reality.

Variety are reporting that negotiations are currently in place for the video game come film sequel which could see the film pick up an partnership similar to the one Paramount had with the last Transformers film. A partnership which could see the film been produced in the country with many Chinese actors added to the cast.

We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies,We are also delighted that much of Need for Speed 2 would be filmed in China, and we believe it will include much more Chinese talent and elements.” said Yin Cao, chairman of China Movie Channel.

If Electronic Arts believe Need For Speed 2 could match or take over from Fast&Furious there will have to be drastic changes creatively and a stronger director too. When Fast&Furious makes nearly $160 million worldwide in the opening weekend, it shows you Need For Speed has a lot of groundwork to be done before it can be mentioned in the same sentence of the better more popular film franchise.

There is a few stumbling blocks that need sorted yet, but if everything goes to plan production of  Need For Speed 2 could start as early as later this year.
