Harrison Ford will return for Blade Runner sequel

The rumours of Harrison Ford returning for a Blade Runner sequel has been circulating for quite some time, but last night, they were officially confirmed.

In an official press release, Alcon Entertainment have confirmed that Harrison Ford will indeed return to the role of Rick Deckard in the sequel to the 1982 original, which was based on Philip K Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of  Electric Sheep? We’ve been aware for a while that the film was in development, and that Ford was being considered, but news never seemed to progress beyond that point until now.

It has also been highlighted that director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) is in negotiations to direct, with original director Ridley Scott on  executive producing duties due to a busy schedule. Hampton Fancher, the co-writer of the original (alongside David Peoples), has written the new script with Michael Green, based on an idea by Fancher and Scott.

With the original events taking place in 2019, the new film will be set several decades later. Of course, this leaves plenty of room for speculation as to what could have happened in the space in between. One thread that audiences will be eager to see answered, is the theory that Deckard is actually a Replicant.

With principal photography set to begin in Summer 2016, and no official release date set as yet, it seems we will have quite a long wait to find out.
