Can You Whistle? Watch The Whistlers UK Trailer
All criminals are bad, many are stupid, but to be one step ahead you need to be smart. Like in Corneliu Porumboiu‘s The Whistlers (La Gomera), they whistle, can you whistle? Don’t worry just watch the official UK Trailer, courtesy of Curzon Artificial Eye.
Not everything as it seems in this one. Police inspector Cristi (Vlad Ivanov) who seems to be secretlyworking with the mafia. His own bosses are watching him, he heads to the Spanish Island of La Gomera, learn a local dialect. This dialect involves whistling so he can continue communicate with criminal ‘friends’.
Corneliu Porumboiu will always be known as the Arthouse darling for Romanian cinema. He will be known for his 2008 Police, Adjective, dry deadpan wit drama. His latest film sees the filmmaker step out his comfort zone with what probably be his most accessible film to date. The film won the praise for the critics, represented Romania at this years Oscars but no awards followed. A certain film from South Korea won it.
This is fun Neo Noir, fast paced twisting film. We enjoyed it immensely at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival, it has a few funny moments, but it was those Noir traits we loved especially.
Cristi, a police inspector in Bucharest, has an ambivalent relationship with the law. Drawn into a high stakes heist by the glamorous and enigmatic Gilda, he finds himself travelling to a Spanish island where he has to learn the local dialect – a secret whistling language – to pull off the biggest deal of his life.
Infused with director Corneliu Porumboiu, The film stars Vlad Ivanov, Catrinel Marlon, Rodica Lazar.
