Lars Von Trier has been a filmmaker with many names, many deserving, some not others he probably loves, now he returns with a Slasher’s wet dream…The House That Jack Built.
The master provocateur is back with another slice of chilling, twisted, debauchery and bloodfest. The Danish filmmaker never fails to arouse the film world or cinephiles that dare watch his artwork. Now returning to Cannes Film Festival after seven years the director wants to realign himself as the king of controversy. Returning to the Horror genre with a Slasher film that’s a metaphorical wet dream for genre fans.
Curzon Artifical Eye Film is releasing this in the UK and Ireland and today they have released the film’s UK Trailer. Some may say it’s a bit of a spoiler others will love the tease as it seems to tick all the boxes we expect from a Lars Von Trier film. Stylish, graphic, gory, angry, violent and darkly humorous.
The trailer teases us with David Bowie’s Fame song, hinting this may be inspired by films such as American Psycho, even Henry to name a few…
Lars von Trier’s upcoming drama follows the highly intelligent Jack (Matt Dillon) over a span of 12 years and introduces the murders that define Jack’s development as a serial killer. We experience the story from Jack’s point of view, while he postulates each murder is an artwork in itself. As the inevitable police intervention is drawing nearer, he is taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork. “The greatest cathedrals have sublime artwork hidden in the darkest of corners for only God to see… so does MURDER!”
The House Jack That Jack Built doesn’t have the UK or Irish release date yet. Some of the American press are saying Autumn time with November a possibility, expect similar for the UK. Tonight is the Cannes premiere so we’ll soon learn if we have something to look forward to or avoid!
The film also stars Riley Keough, Bruno Ganz, Uma Thurman, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, Jeremy Davies, Sofie Gråbøl and Yu Ji-Tae (the villain from the original Oldboy).
