13 Is The Lucky Number For The Shape Of Water In Oscar Nominations

The candle has finally been lit, today The Academy has announced it’s nominations for The Oscars 2018.  The red carpet will be getting rolled out, speeches will be written, nerves will be jangling especially if your Gullermo Del Toro. The Shape Of Water leads the nominations with the cold war fantasy gaining  13 nominations.

It won’t be an easy night for the movie with the nearest challenger coming from Christopher Nolan‘s Dunkirk bagging 8 nominations. Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour also 8, 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, bagged itself 6 nominations.

9 films in total with Call Me By Your Name, The Post, and The Phantom Thread the other films in the running. Great news for Jordan Peele‘s satirical horror comedy a movie that the critics loved, gaining 4 nominations. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. Greta Gerwig‘s Lady Bird was also nominated for best film. Gerwig herself nominated for Best Director, first female director since Kathryn Bigelow in 2010.

Gary Oldman will be the frontrunner in the best actor category with Daniel Day-Lewis, Daniel Kaluuya, and Denzil Washington. Call Me By Your Name star Timothée Chalamet rightly is the other nominee which will delight many.

As for the ladies, there is no name sticking out as a possible frontrunner with Sally Hawkins, Frances McDormand, Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan all looking equally winners.

Like any awards nominations, there will always be disappointment with Wonder Woman, The Disaster Artist and All The Money In The World were all expected to challenge. Ridley Scott‘s movie will at least have something to cheer for with Christopher Plummer in Supporting Role. As for James Franco, the recent allegations possibly could have stopped The Disaster Artist winning any nominations.

So will it be lucky 13 for The Shape Of Water or be an unlucky night for Guillermo Del Toro‘s movie? Could Martin McDonagh‘s dark dramedy or Churchill’s Biopic be the dark horses? All will be revealed when The Oscars 2018 will take place Sunday 4th March.
