From Middle Earth to post-apocalyptic fantasy world, Peter Jackson returns to the big screen since The Hobbit: Five Armies in 2014. This time producing for his long-time collaborator Christian Rivers in Steampunk Fantasy Mortal Engines.
Based on Philip Reeve‘s 2001 novel of the same name, a world where civilization now lives in floating cities! Ahead of its release in December 2018, Universal Pictures has released the first UK Teaser Trailer.Whilst the trailer doesn’t reveal any plot details or revelations, what it does do is show we have a unique movie on the cards. Ever seen London float? You will when you watch this!
This movie marks Rivers directorial debut which may on first evidence a big task, he is a very experienced hand in the industry. Rivers has worked with Jackson since Braindead (1992) on visual effects as well as second unit directing. Jackson will provide the perfect mentor for him as will Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
The movie does have a big Mad Max vibe, even an anime influence especially on the Steampunk side of things. The thought of those big cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham even Glasgow floating and in battle! Whatever you think fans of the novel will be excited to finally see their book adapted for the big screen.
Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
