DVD Review – The Rewrite (2014)
The Rewrite follows Keith Matthews, a screenwriter who wrote one successful screenplay, which won an Oscar for Best Screenplay. Since then however, he has become divorced and broke. When his agent offers him a job as a screenwriting lecturer at a New York university, he has no other choice but to take it.
Within the first ten minutes it seems things are about to get worse for Keith, especially as he drunkenly insults the head of department, played brilliantly by Alison Janney, and sleeps with student Karen. Things get brighter with the arrival of single mum and mature student, Holly who Keith soon finds himself falling for.
Although The Rewrite is a rom-com which stars Hugh Grant, it seems different to the other romantic roles he’s played but in a good way. Amongst the great casting is a new and original story idea which gets you thinking about life.
