The Double -Jesse-Eisenberg

If you enjoyed subtle but eccentric Richard Ayaode directorial debut Submarine, his follow up his just much as of a oddball effort as debut, with Jesse Eisenberg meeting his otherself in the full UK Trailer for The Double.

Based on aย Fyodor Dostoyevsky novella, The Double we meet ย  Simon James(Eisenberg) ย your typical office drone, a very unimpressive drone whose dissatisfied with life. His life however ย is going to go downhill thanks to the arrival ย of Jame Simon, his doppelganger who is physically the same but ย is more confident overall better at what Simon does. James is that good he’s even taking over Simon’s personal life and his girlfriend Hannah (Mia Wasikowska).

Richard Ayaode‘s off-kilter brand of humour works perfectly in The Double capturing the dystopian -esque feel of film perfectly but what really shines through is The Terry Gillam ala Brazil inspiration. Very odd, bizzare most of all very dark , the director seems to have found a winning formula that ย that make arthouse film accessible and enjoyed by mainstream film fans. If you enjoyed him in the I.T Crowd The Double will go down a treat.

The Double ย will open in the UK on 4th April via a Glasgow Film Festival appearance next Saturday (22nd) & Sunday (23rd).The film co-starsย Wallace Shawn, Rade Serbedzija, James Fox, andย Yasmin Paige.

Synopsis

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simons exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simons horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
