Young talent is everywhere these days, but only the truly impressive receive the opportunity to show the world their ability. Often these opportunities begin in small Art house films, providing enough recognition to be chosen for something bigger. In honour of Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s upcoming breakout role in Smashed, we’ve taken a look at some of the most talented breakout actresses working today.

Marion Cotillard

This beautiful French actress has been appearing on the silver screen more and more often as of late. Although Marion had starred in over 20 films since the mid 1990’s in her native home of France, it was Tim Burton’s Big Fish which introduced her to a worldwide audience and most importantly the USA.

Since working on Big Fish her career has gone from strength to strength , winning an Oscar for her unforgettable portrayal of Edith Piaf, playing Christian Bale’s deceitful love interest in The Dark Knight Rises and most recently portraying a trainer of killer whales who loses her legs in Rust and Bone – Her performance in which has Academy tongues wagging.

Ellen Page

The unforgettable face of teenage pregnancy, Ellen Page’s role in Juno made a big ‘bump’ of an impression in 2007. Following a groundbreaking entrance into the world of film, Ellen has gone on to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in one of the biggest films of 2010, Inception. Page showed her talent as Adrianne, who is brought in to be the official architect in a scheme that involves stepping inside of someone’s dreams and extracting information. We’re sure that this is only the beginning of a huge career for Ellen Page.

She perfectly encompasses the characteristics of Celia, a newly married country girl from Sugarditch, Mississippi. Chastain’s next big role is coming up in January, as a head officer in the hunt for Bin Laden in Zero Dark Thirty. Keep your eyes on Ms. Chastain; we will continue to see this vibrant red head for many successful films to come.
