The advancement of Chat PGT recently showcases AI is exciting as it’s terrifying. In Franklin Ritch‘s cautionary sci-fi, The Artifice Girl ask what does it mean to be human? Ahead of it’s Digital release in May, Vertigo Releasing have released the film’s UK Trailer.

After making it’s world premiere at Fantasia Festival in 2022 and this month at Glasgow Film Festival, the Canadian is set for it’s UK release. The film asks that difficult question between humanity and Artificial Intelligence. There is no question AI is getting close to replicating humanity, soon it will be more powerful.

The Artifice Girl tells the story of a internet vigilante who creates a programme used to combat and help capture online predators. A programme that advances to a point to seriously ask questions of autonomy, oppression and to be human.

When an internet vigilante develops a revolutionary new computer programme to combat online predators, its rapid advancement leads to serious questions of autonomy, oppression, and what it really means to be human.

The Artifice Girl is the ingenious debut feature from writer and director Franklin Ritch who stars in the film. The film also features the legendary Lance Henriksen (Aliens, The Quick and the Dead, The X-Files, Millennium), and newcomer Tatum Matthews (The Waltons). The film premiered at Fantasia International Film Festival last year to high critical acclaim, scoring a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also made its US debut at this year’s SXSW, and its UK premiere at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival.

The rest of the cast includes David Girard, Lance Henrikson, Tatum Matthews, and Sinda Nichols.

Vertigo Releasing will release The Artifice Girl on digital platforms in the UK and Ireland on 1st May. We will have a review closer to release as well as a Podcast review at The Chronicle.
