Thoughts On Wrestlemania 31

wrestlemania31-faces

Wrestlemania 31 is right around the corner and I for one cannot wait. Back in January, after the Royal Rumble, I couldn’t see how this year’s card would be good at all. It was predictable and dull, but then WWE did what they do best and started throwing curve balls here and there and we now have a good handful of matches that can potentially steal the show.

To get people in the mood for it, I thought it would be a great idea to get together people’s opinions, share memories and make a few predictions. The best thing about doing this, for me, was seeing how the casual viewer sees things compared to the more seasoned viewer. It’s fair to say the opinions do differ but it makes them no less valid.

Kris Wall says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is the Intercontinental ladder match. I can’t remember seeing a bad Money in the Bank match ever, and this is basically going to be the same as any of them, except with a belt on the line, and it’s almost impossible to predict who will win this match, unlike a fair few of the rest.

What I’m least looking forward to is the crowd during the main event. They have made their feelings known to Roman Reigns for a while now and it can easily affect the intensity of a match. It could leave us with a sour taste in our mouths after such a good undercard.

What I think might happen is we might get a double cross from Heyman on Lesnar. He’s done it before and we need a reason to keep Lesnar on tv after signing a new multi year contract this week, especially if he is to lose the belt. Or hopefully end the event on a high with a successful cash in from Seth Rollins.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit meeting in the ring at the end of Wrestlemania 20. It was a very special moment that we all got to share with them after their many years of wrestling around the world, building to this moment.

Jonny Stewart says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is finally seeing Sting inside a WWE ring, even though I would have preferred it to be during his prime

What I’m least looking forward to is Seth Rollins potentially cashing in. Not because of him being dull, because he’s quite the opposite, but because it’s too safe an option.

What I think might happen is apart from Seth cashing in, we may get a surprise appearance of Jake The Snake, as he’s been looking for 1 last match.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is from last year when the streak was broken. As moments go, you don’t get much bigger and it really showed some intent from the company to not be compliant with the norm.

Joe Provost says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is the pageantry of it all. It’s the Super Bowl of wrestling. We usually get the whole package (Great matches, entertaining moments backstage and celebrities).

What I’m least looking forward to is the continuation of Reigns being shoved down our throats. He has been pushed so hard it’s created a natural rejection.

What I think might happen is Reigns wins the title, but Heyman gives a low blow, followed by a cash in, curb stomp by Rollins and Rollins finishes mania as champ and the new Heyman guy.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is after hours of begging my mom to let me order Wresltemania 17 on PPV. She gave in as long as I used my birthday money, and that opening clip of Wrestlemania 17 is what it’s all about for me.

Ben Browne says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is Whilst I’m definitely looking forward to the Intercontinental Ladder Match, I think it has to be Bray Wyatt vs. The Undertaker. The build up has been great and it’s been a year since we saw Taker last. His entrance is going to blow the roof off. Props go to Bray Wyatt too, who has found his mic mojo again with his promos. I think it’s going to be a proper brawl.

What I’m least looking forward to is the main event, Lesnar vs Reigns. I hope it’s a good match. Things seem a little less ironclad since Lesnar has re-signed with WWE, but who knows with this company. Apart from Paul Heyman trying his best, I’m just not feeling it.

What I think might happen is John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Lesnar all walk away with the belts. I could be completely wrong, but I hope not.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania X-Seven. Rock and Austin had fought before, but the quality of storytelling is what makes this one truly special to me. The match is great, full of a huge variety of moves and stolen finishers. No matter what he tries, Austin can’t beat The Rock clean and so turns to Mr. McMahon and the help of a steel chair. Whilst the end devastated me at the time (Stone Cold was my hero), it’s some fantastic stuff and was the cap on what is considered one of the best ‘Manias ever.

Paul Devine says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is Wrestlemania is meant to be the holy grail, the mecca of  all wrestling events in reality the whole event should be on the same par, year after year now the focus shifts to one or two matches. If I was to pick anything I should probably pick the 6 man intercontinental match but been a kid of the 1980s I’m going with 2 matches close to my heart, The Icon Sting Vs HHH and Undertaker Vs Bray Wyatt.  What’s looking like 2 legends of wrestling bowing out  I do hope both get the respect they due, could Taker been master passing  reign to student Wyatt?

What I’m least looking forward to is I’m afraid i’m with the masses here Lesnar Vs Reigns. Not denying Reigns doesn’t deserve the chance at the top, he does but you can guess he’s a little overwhelmed at times been pushed too quickly into the spotlight. Even the Rock, Stone Cold had to work at it hard to the top, Reigns seems to be getting it fed with a silver spoon unfair on the fans and Reigns himself.

What I think might happen is going with reaction of fans  a sometimes positive one Reigns may win the title thanks to his new manager Paul Heyman. It could signal Lesnar becoming a face for a while or opening the door for Bryan, Cena or even Rusev to prove himself by beating Cena and going for the Jugular the top crown maybe even as a winner takes all. My other option is if things are going down the pan for Reigns his cousin The Rock may appear and level things.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is It’s got to be Stone Cold Vs Shawn Michaels with Mike Tyson as guest ref. This was when I got back into wrestling mid/lade 1990s the attitude era which still had Sky One showing some of the PPVs. The actual match was good  but the build up from Pre-Royal Rumble as this was the rise of the rattlesnake  and his run in with Mr McMahon. Both guys suffering from injury Michaels especially as he was forced into a ‘semi-retirement, you could see he was in pain. Despite having Tyson been paraded as a guest of DX he laid a punch on Michael who doesn’t disappoint before Stone Cold gave him a Stunner before opening a few cans with his new Buddie, give me a hell yeah! Suck it!

Gavin Tones Says…

What I’m looking forward to the most is the Intercontinental Championship match. I believe it’s going to steal the show, the people in it are easily main eventers and I think it could set up a big feud or 2.

What I’m least looking forward to is the Andre The Giant memorial Battle Royal. I think that there is nothing to be gained from being in it, except a Wrestlemania payday, and winning it doesn’t really mean anything. Just look at Cesaro, if anything it stopping his momentum.

What I think might happen is Seth Rollins will get a successful cash in after Roman Reigns beats Brock Lesnar for the belt.

My favourite Wrestlemania moment is The Rock Vs Hogan. I would have said Daniel Bryan winning last year, but The Rock vs Hogan was so iconic and the crowd was so good during that match. It blew the roof off.
