Locke & Key (2020)

Locke & Key is an American supernatural horror drama web television series developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite, based on the comic book series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.

Synopsis

After Rendell Locke is murdered at the hands of former student Sam Lesser, his wife Nina is forced to move with her three children Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode from Seattle to Matheson, Massachusetts and take residence in Rendell’s family home, Keyhouse.

The children soon discover a number of mysterious keys throughout the house that can be used to unlock various doors in magical ways. However, they become aware of a demonic entity that is also searching for the keys for its own malevolent purposes.

Review

The youngest of 3 siblings ends up ‘finding’ a key to the outhouse which has a well, and in his innocence frees a woman who he believes lives in the well. She’s not a nice person or lives in the well, but rather is trapped down there and for good reason!

But who is she? You won’t find out for a long while so settle in and prepare to binge-watch Season 1 as each episode leaves you with so many questions you need to watch the next, and you don’t find out the whole truth to who this woman is, how the children’s father died and why their uncle has no memories of living in the Locke house right until the end of season 1.

Filled with magical keys that have special functions, the most popular and sort after is the key is the anywhere key. If you visualise a door and use the key in any door when you open it, you’ve just stepped through the door you visualised. You can go anywhere.

The remaining keys are introduced throughout the series, they are hidden around the house and all have magical powers, some a little darker than others, the mirror key being practically eerie as you can quite literally get lost in a hall of mirrors struggling to get out.

But there is good and evil in this story so both sides want the key, there are also misguided adults who think they are doing good but are causing more harm, and two teenagers who think they know best!

It’s an easy watch and the storyline flows nicely. It’s magical and supernatural, a little dark and ends the Season with you thinking “Knew it”! You do see that ending coming!

But does leave it open for Season 2
