Film Review – Trolls World Tour (2020)

DreamWorks Animation presents TROLLS WORLD TOUR, a music-filled, exciting adventure that’s sure to make the whole family sing, dance, and have fun again and again. Join Poppy, Branch, and the rest of the Trolls in the all-new Dance Party Edition exclusively on Digital 13th July 2020 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray™, and DVD 27th July 2020 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

This upbeat journey that’s sure to get your feet tapping is brought to life through a star-studded cast including Anna Kendrick (Trolls, Pitch Perfect), Justin Timberlake (Trolls, Friends With Benefits), Kelly Clarkson (Ugly Dolls), Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” The Angry Birds Movie 2) and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Franchise) as well as Kenan Thompson (“Saturday Night Live,” Playmobil: The Movie), James Corden (Into The Woods, Peter Rabbit), Ozzy Osbourne, Anderson .Paak, Sam Rockwell (G-Force, Jojo Rabit), J Balvin and Anthony Ramos (Original Hamilton Cast, A Star is Born).

In TROLLS WORLD TOUR, Poppy and Branch discover that their kingdom is only one of six musical realms—Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop, and Rock—that were once united in perfect harmony. When the power-hungry ruler of the Rocker Trolls threatens to silence all other music so her tribe can reign supreme, Poppy and Branch must embark on an epic quest to unite the realms of Trollskind, before the songs in their hearts are lost forever!

It’s been four years since the bubbly Princess Poppy and grumpy troll Branch graced our screens, and for our family my son was four years old and LOVED the singing and dancing and all the bright colours on screen.

When we sat down to watch Trolls World Tour, I came up against some resistance! My son is now eight, not four and doesn’t want to watch this film! I’m in two minds as I know there’s going to be singing, but it’ll be a remix and mash-up of songs we already know, so I’m open-minded.

Once the film was on he was glued to it! He’s decided he doesn’t like rock music (which I’ve not told his father yet for fear of disowning him), but this is due to the Rock Queen being rather mean!

The Rock Queen lives on one of six realms and decided to unite the entire world with Rock. To do this, she is destroying all other forms of music and as a Techno fan the first 15 minutes into the film were hard to watch for me!

We watched as Poppy, now Queen of Pop, sets out to give the Rock Queen a hug and to be friends, in true pink fluffy Poppy style only to realise that the Rock Queen doesn’t want a hug. She wants to rule supreme.

As the story continues it leads us through the different types of music and why these are all important and diversity is good; how bland the world would be if we were all just one type of music.

The most poignant moment in the movie for me was when Poppy realised it’s OK to be different!

Poppy: “I can make it right; history is just going to keep repeating itself until we make everyone realise we are all the same
