Disney Planning to Re-Release Empire Strikes Back In UK Cinemas

Yesterday Cineworld Cinemas announced they were planning to re-opening cinemas in England (sadly not Wales or Scotland). Many people will be wondering, what will they will be watching? Variety are reporting Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back will be one of those films.
The news story states the film will be shown not in Cineworld but Vue Cinema chain. The film will be shown in the 4K format the first time any of the original trilogy of films have been shown in that format on the big screens.
Empire Strikes Back sees Luke Skywalker take his first steps to becoming a Jedi Warrior. Studying the Force under the guidance of Master Yoda as the Galactic Empire pursues the Rebel Alliance.
To many Star Wars fans, this is considered the best of the original films, if not all the films. This film and the other films are available on 4K Blu-Ray now and Disney+.
As we know here in the UK we were one of the last nations to shut down when the Corona Virus outbreak became world pandemic. Whilst we won’t go into politics of about lockdown , Boris Johnson’s government hasn’t escaped rightful criticism.
Here in the UK we’re still miles behind many other nations who have handled lockdown with precision. We are slowly going through the phases (some parts of the UK going quicker than others), people will eager to get back to some sort of normality.
Whilst we’re excited that cinemas now confirming targeted re-opening dates, people will be very cautious. Even hardcore filmgoers, as at this stage no exact social distancing measures have been revealed. Until we these measures in practice are put place we can confidently return to our local cinemas the way we used to.
It’s a logical and smart move to re show some older/classic film releases until new films are ready to be screened. With the usual July Star Wars celebrations cancelled, smart move by Disney to showcase one of their prize jewels.
At the moment it’s only the English Cinemas aiming for July re-opening. Vue Cinemas 3rd July with Cineworld a week later on the 10th. Here’s hoping the rest of the UK Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will get word sooner than later.
