The 2016 Hit Disney animation Moana is set to get a long awaited sequel in November.

The surprise announcement came today from the Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger . Moana 2, Disney Animation’s all-new feature-length sequel to 2016’s Oscar-nominated film, will be released in cinemas later in 2024.

“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” said Iger, “and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theatres this November.”

Moana made £538 million (about $680 million in US dollars) world wide at the box office. The film is also one of Disney+ best watch animated features, so no wonder  we are getting a sequel!

It’s expected that Auli’i Cravalho will return as our titular heroine Moana with Dwayne Johnson voicing demi-god Maui. She lived on the fictional Polynesian island of Motunui, sailing out to the seas to prove a point and finish her ancestors’ unfinished quest.
