Deadfall Blu-Ray Review
Deadfall is the latest film by the academy award winning director Stefan Ruzowitzky who won it for The Counterfeiters. This film however isn’t gonna be winning any awards and in the UK it has been held back from release for like a year. It has received limited release in both the US and UK and it was released swiftly onto dvd and blu-ray after it’s theatrical runs.
It’s about a pair of siblings played by Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde who have botched a casino heist and are stuck in the snow. They decided to split up and meet up somewhere else later on. The sister meets a guy played by Charlie Hunnam who is on the lam after believing he killed somebody who owes him money after he sees him after being let out of prison. She seduces him and they decide to go to his parent’s for Thanksgiving and her brother will meet them there.
It’s very much a grade A direct to dvd film with some great actors like Eric Bana with Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson playing the Charlie Hunnam’s parents. Everyone gives admiral performances especially Spacek and Kristofferson but when was the last time they didn’t?
It’s well shot by Shane Hurlbut who has a background in action films. It has a nice sense of tension throughout even though the final act lets the film down considerably. It’s a solid thriller that is a perfectly fine Friday night by yourself watch with good performances. Sadly the great cast isn’t in a remarkable film that would suit their collective talents much more.
