We’ve been living in ‘Generation Remake’ for a very long time now, so seeing more names thrown into the ‘let’s remake this’ hat don’t surprise us as much it would have years before. Usually,  we hear of cries  of lack of creativity and 99% it’ true. Some movies like Starship Troopers were made to be remade again and after  dead ends, it looks like the reboot has taken a step closer to becoming reality.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Columbia Pictures is about to reboot Paul Verhoeven‘s 1997 cult classic with Fast&Furious producer Neal H.Moritz.They even have Mark Swift and Damian Shannon ready to take up the writing duties who have recently written another reboot Baywatch starring Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson.

Starship Troopers was originally set to make a comeback as a TV series rather than a movie, but now the movie is back on the table, they are hoping the new version could kick-off a franchise.

The movie  is based on the sci-fi war novel by Robert A. Heinlein that told the military life of a soldier named Johnny Rico, who moves up the ranks as mankind fights a war against alien bugs.

Paul Verhoeven did one time say he hated the novel and decided to make something more straight up satire that erodes Heinlein’s work. The satire ran strong through fascism and the military  with a tone similar to propaganda movies.

The original movie wasn’t a total success at the box office  back in 1997 but over the years has gained a cult following and 3 straight to DVD movies as well.Verhoeven has been outspoken also against two of his other movies Robocop and Total Recall both remade in the last 5 years. Both didn’t do well critically as well as the box office with the director saying both movies took themselves to seriously .
