May December First Look

Sky Cinema have released the UK Trailer for Todd Haynes melodrama, May December. The new teaser invite us into a ‘vicious love triangle’ with Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.

This film marks Haynes outside his music film run, last one being his The Velvet Underground doc. It played its critically acclaimed debut at Cannes Film Festival with London it’s next festival before it’s UK cinema release. Haynes did set the bar high with Carol when it comes to dramas and if this one matches that in quality, we have a good film on the cards.

The premise for this one follows a married couple who have a large age gap between them. They invite a Hollywood actress to spend time with them who will be playing the wife, which puts a secured marriage under strain.

May December follows married couple Gracie and Joe Atherton-Yoo (Julianne Moore and Charles Melton) whose 23-year age gap sparked a notorious tabloid romance that gripped the nation two decades ago. Cut to modern day, and their marriage comes under renewed strain when Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) comes to spend time with the family to better understand Gracie, who she will be playing in a film about the scandal.

Produced by Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum of Gloria Sanchez Productions, Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler, and Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas of MountainA. Grant S. Johnson and Tyler W. Koney also produced and fully financed through their respective companies Project Infinity and Taylor & Dodge.

The film also stars D.W. Moffett, Cory Michael Smith, Drew Scheid, and Jocelyn Shelfo. May December will first be in UK and Irish cinemas from 17th November, then heading to Sky Cinema on 8th December. You can also catch it at BFI London Film Festival in October [details here].
