First Look AT Lulu Wang’s Expats Starring Nicole Kidman

Ahead of it’s premiere at Toronto Film Festival, Prime Video have sent us first look images for Lulu Wang‘s Expats. The six-part limited drama series, set in Hong Kong, will premiere on the streaming service in early 2024.

Nicole Kidman stars along side Sarayu Blue, and Ji-young Yoo who play three women living in Hong Kong and their lives interconnected thanks to tragedy. The series also stars Brian Tee (Chicago Med, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), and Jack Huston (House of Gucci, Fargo).

The Expats is based on the best-selling novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee. with Wang adapting the book to the small screen.


Set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, Expats centers on three American women—Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo)—whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy. The series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred. Brian Tee, who plays Margaret’s husband Clarke and Jack Huston, who plays Hilary’s husband David also star in the series.

Prime Video will launch Expats in early 2024, exact date has still to be announced. The series world premiere will take place at Toronto Film Festival on 8th September.
