Blue Finch Film Releasing are set to re-release of the 2004 Belgium cult horror Calvaire in September.

Despite being from Belgium, Fabrice du Welz’s was originally released in 2004 when New French Extremity was still big. The film found itself part of that movement and if you have seen the film it does fit in nicely. Like many of the films also in the movement, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre plays a big influence when it looks at unravelling of human nature.

The film stars Laurent Lucas, Jackie Berroyer, Philippe Nahon, and Brigitte Lahaie. Calvaire (or The Ordeal), Marc (Lucas) is a travelling singer who finds himself captive after his car breaks downs.

Blue Finch have released a new UK Trailer to promote the release, check it out…

Marc Stevens is a travelling singer in rural Belgium. At the nursing home where he is performing, the concert has ended, and Marc takes to the road. Shortly afterwards his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. He is taken in by Bartel, an innkeeper who became psychologically fragile after his wife Gloria left him.

This is how Marc’s ordeal begins…

Re-released on UK digital platforms, director Fabrice Du Welz’s unrelenting modern horror classic Calvaire, considered a key part of the New French Extremity movement of bold and challenging horror cinema, was shot by cinematographer Benoît Debie (Gaspar Noé’s Irréversible) and stars Laurent Lucas (Raw), Philippe Nahon (Irréversible, Switchblade Romance) and Jackie Berroyer.

Blue Finch Film Releasing will re-release Calvaire on Digital HD in the UK and Ireland from 19th September.
