Russell Crowe has faced evil in it’s many forms in his career, even embracing it. In April he will fight demons in the name of the Vatican in The Pope’s Exorcist UK Trailer.

The Devil or his fiends might just be the Australian actor’s opponent in this supernatural horror. The film is inspired by the files of the Vatican’s chief Exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth. Majority of his his investigations, he’s not dealing with demonic possession, but mental health issues. His latest exorcism sees him investigate a young possessed boy who maybe the key to a dark hidden secret.

The film is directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun, Overlord, Samaritan). The film may not spark originality, for genre fans it looks promising. You wonder why it’s taken so long to make it onto the big screen!

Who is Father Gabriele Amorth? Sony Pictures have also released a short vignette. In that new promo, Russell Crowe explains the background of his true life character. He went to the ‘dark places’ in the name of the Catholic Church…

Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award®-winner Russell Crowe), The Pope’s Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

The rest of the cast includes Laurel Marsden, River Hawkins, Pablo Raybould, Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Ralph Ineson. The Pope’s Exorcist will ‘cleanse’ UK and Irish Cinemas from 7th April.
