Universal Pictures have released the UK Trailer for Bobby Farrelly‘s Champions starring Woody Harrelson. A film that sees Harrelson jumping through hoops in the name of redemption and Basketball.
The comedy drama sees Farrelly reuniting with Harrelson. The pair worked on Kingpin (1996), now working together on this sporting comedy.
A disgraced minor league basketball coach who is fired from his job and getting himself into trouble. He is ordered by the court to do community service and coach a team of intellectually disabled basketball players. These guys are preparing for the Special Olympics and after the early reservations the team might take him somewhere.
This film is the English language remake of a 2018 Spanish of the same name. Not sure how good the original version was to compare the latest version. Whilst the whole set up of Champions may not be highly original, there is a uplifting, feel good tone to it. Farrelly directed the likes of Dumb And Dumber, Something About Mary to name a few. This one looks a slightly different comedy, one that might be fun to check out…
Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. The film also stars Ernie Hudson, Cheech Marin, Matt Cook, Kaitlin Olson, Madison Tevlin, Joshua Felder, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, and Matthew Von Der Ahe.
Champions will be released in the UK and Ireland in 2023, that date still to be announced. If you live in the USA, you can see the film from 24th March 2023.
