You don’t have to be a fan of Leonard Cohen, his song Hallelujah is iconic. It’s that good the list of bands and musicians covered the classic songs is endless. Later this month Sony Picture Classics will release Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen A Journey A Song.

The documentary deliver an account of the great song and Leonard Cohen through that song. The dramatic journey, the songwriter and the testimonies from those whom Hallelujah personally inspired them. Sony have today released the UK Trailer, check it out below…

Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song is a definitive exploration of singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen as seen through the prism of his internationally renowned hymn, “Hallelujah.” This feature-length documentary weaves together three creative strands: The songwriter and his times; the song’s dramatic journey from record label reject to chart-topping hit; and moving testimonies from major recording artists for whom “Hallelujah” has become a personal touchstone. Approved for production by Leonard Cohen just before his 80th birthday in 2014, the film accesses a wealth of never-before-seen archival materials from the Cohen Trust including Cohen’s personal notebooks, journals and photographs, performance footage, and extremely rare audio recordings and interviews.

Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 16th September. However the directors Daniel Geller  and Dayna Goldfine will be in London for three special Picturehouse Q&A sessions next week. At the Ritzy Brixton (Sept 7), Picturehouse Central London (Sept 9) and Picturehouse Finsbury Park (Sept 10). Dan and Dayna will also be joined by Robert Kory, Leonard Cohen’s former long-time manager and current head of the Cohen Family Trust, at Ritzy and Picturehouse Central. [Book London tickets here].
