Animation isn’t just for kids, it’s for all ages, one fine example is Charlotte. Good Deed Entertainment are releasing the film in the U.S and we can get a look at the gorgeous Trailer.
The film premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and with the horrors with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this becomes even more relevant. Kiera Knightley voices our titular character Charlotte or German Jewish artist Charlotte Salomon. This is based on a true story set in Berlin just before the World War II to go on and create masterpiece artwork.
Anyone knows World War II, the dreadful situations Jewish people went through during the war is unforgivable. Living in a country which saw art as protest against regime and her work like many others was like a two fingers to the Status Quo. We do get a good look at the story and how her canvas became her way to unleash her pain and anguish.
CHARLOTTE is an animated drama that tells the true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who comes of age in Berlin on the eve of the Second World War. Fiercely imaginative and deeply gifted, she dreams of becoming an artist. Her first love applauds her talent, which emboldens her resolve. But the world around her is changing quickly and dangerously, limiting her options and derailing her dream. When anti-Semitic policies inspire violent mobs, she leaves Berlin for the safety of the South of France. There she begins to paint again, and finds new love. But her work is interrupted, this time by a family tragedy that reveals an even darker secret. Believing that only the extraordinary will save her, she embarks on the monumental adventure of painting her life story.
The voice cast is fantastic, Brenda Bleythyn, Jim Broadbent, Sam Claflin, Eddie Marsan, Helen McCrory, Sophie Okonedo, Mark Strong.
We don’t know any details of who and when Charlotte will get a UK release. Good Deed Entertainment will release the film in select U.S Cinemas from 22nd April.
