Best Films Free On BBC iPlayer (2nd January 2022)

Happy new year all, the weekend is here again, can only mean  this weeks Best Films Free On BBC iPlayer. This weeks choices can cost you your head, Hollywood icons, Disney animation, laughs and death on a boat.

The list below isn’t the complete list, just a selection. Head over to BBC see what’s on offer, something for everyone! Just a quick note, some films will be available for limited time, enjoy!

HIGHLANDER (1986) FANTASY, ACTION

There can be only one! The acting might be cheesy or even awful Highlander is one of those films you grow to love over the years. It has it’s many faults, but it’s those faults that make this one a cult hit. Christopher Lambert as Scottish warrior Conor MacLeod, Sean Connery as his Spanish-Egyptian mentor Ramirez and yes he’s really Scottish!

In modern day New York, an immortal Scottish clansman fights to become the ultimate ruler of humanity.

COCO (2017) ANIMATION, ADVENTURE

A Fantastic Pixar animation with a true Hispanic voice cast that celebrates Mexican/Latino culture, respect, family values and traditions. Charming, emotional, colourful, absolutely brilliant.

Despite his family’s ancestral ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming a musician like his idol, legendary singer Ernesto de la Cruz. Defying their wishes, Miguel sets off for the Land of the Dead in search of Ernesto and a chance to prove his talents.

BIG HERO 6 (2014) ANIMATION, ACTION, SCI-FI

Looking for an action packed, highly entertaining film for the young ones which might not be exactly a MCU film, this one will do the trick!

A robotics prodigy, Hiro Hamada, finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion – an inflatable robot named Baymax – Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.

Featuring the voices of Scott Adist (Baymax), Ryan Potter (Hiro), Daniel Henney (Tadashi), TJ Miller (Fred), Jamie Chung (Go Go), Damon Wayans Jr (Wasabi), Genesis Rodriguez (Honey Lemon), James Cromwell (Robert Callaghan), Alan Tudyk (Alistair Krei), Maya Rudolph (Cass), Abraham Bunrubi (General) and Katie Lowes (Abigail).

ALAN PARTRIDGE ALPHA PAPA (2013) COMEDY, ACTION

A-Ha! North Norfolk’s finest DJ Alan Partridge makes his big screen debut. Might not be a big fan of Steve Coogan’s legendary fictional character, I am now. This was an unexpected fun film that even non fans will enjoy!

To save his own job, Alan gets radio colleague Pat laid off, but when the man returns to the relaunched station with a shotgun and a siege ensues, Alan is given the high-profile role of go-between, trying to appease both the hostage taker and armed police. So lots of people have Alan in their sights.

Hit big screen spin-off for the self-obsessed former TV ‘personality’, from BBC Films.

Legendary performer Judy Garland arrives in London in the winter of 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts. From BBC Films.

It’s a side of the iconic actress many may have not known much about, raw and emotional.

DEATH ON THE NILE (1978) CRIME, DRAMA

If your looking forward to Kenneth Branagh’s remake which is out later this year, why not check out the 1978 version. Considered one of the best crime films with Peter Ustinov as Poirot, hamming it up.

Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit. The great Belgian detective Hercule Poirot cannot believe how many enemies beautiful American heiress Linnett Ridgeway has made. When she is murdered on her honeymoon cruise, Poirot has only one problem – everybody on board could have done it, and everybody had a reason for doing it.
