Film Review – Habit (2021)

Say three Hail Mary’s, then be ready for a wild, fascinating, hyper ‘Sister Act‘ action drama that’s an oddly compelling ‘Nuns on the Run‘ crime caper successfully holding my attention from the sacrilegious opening moments, to the divine surprise closing scene.

Sex positive, Mads (Bella Thorne) likes to fight for your right to party and gain open expressionism towards a whole matter of subjects particularly her one true love, Jesus Christ almighty.

Visiting L.A, on a whim she decides to run drugs for Eric (Gavan Rossdale, of 90s grunge maestros, Bush) a former Hollywood player now washed-up middle-man dealer. When the proceeds of a hard nights work is stolen, a bigger criminal element goes after Mads and her two indifferent accomplice friends, Addy (Andreja Pejic), Evie (Libby Mintz).

Brazen Eric is blamed and promptly assassinated by a higher criminal force; the girls go into hiding in cos-play as nuns with an unhinged drug queen in pursuit, named Queenie (Josie Ho).

Supersonic presence Bella Thorne, doesn’t receive enough accolades for her swift, enthusiastic acting ability. An unpredictable trio rounded out by Libby Mintz and especially Andreja Pejic, these formidable girls are believable whilst darkly funny.

The truly great, Ione Skye (Say Anything, Rachel Papers) has a cameo, as does Paris Jackson who also contributes to the soundtrack alongside Billy Idol, Duran Duran.

Habit, is not for all tastes and bound to upset those of the biblical nature, I Liked it. Amen.
