There’s no way around it, Squid Game has gotten millions worldwide enjoying something uniquely Korean. It’s gotten the attention of people who may not see South Korea as a tv and cinematic treasure chest of entertainment. Anyone who follows Korean cinema knows Kim Jee-woon (I Saw The Devil, Tale Of Two Sisters) has gave us some of the best genre films to date and now with Dr.Brain he heads into streaming world.
Today Apple TV have released the trailer for the six part sci-fi thriller. Coinciding with Apple TV+ launch in South Korea, has Apple unearthed their very own ‘Squid Game‘?
The series is based on the popular Korean webtoon of the same name by Hongjacga. It stars Lee Sun-kyun (Parasite) is a brain scientist who faces personal tragedy involving his family. He must use ‘Brain Syncs’ to read their memories and find out exactly what happened to them.
Off course this doesn’t have the weirdness and surreal tone of the popular Netflix, it doesn’t mean it couldn’t have the same critical success. It does look mysterious and intriguing, when it’s coming from Jee-Woon we’re fascinated!
“Dr. Brain” follows a brilliant brain scientist Sewon (LEE Sun-kyun) who suffers a horrific personal tragedy when his family falls victim to a mysterious accident. Desperate to uncover what happened, he goes to extraordinary lengths to solve the tragic mystery by conducting “brain syncs” with the dead to access their memories for clues.
The series also stars Lee You-young, Park Hee-soon, Seo Ji-hye, and Lee Jae-won. Dr.Brain will be released on Apple TV+ on Thursday, 4th November (3rd in U.S), followed by one new episode weekly through to 10th December.
