Curzon To Give Oscar Nominated Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee UK Release

We’re about to enter the Awards season when film studios and distributors release their big players, the films they believe bring them Awards glory. One of those films being pushed as an Oscar contender is Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee.

The animated documentary was a winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and recently selected to represent Denmark at the Academy Awards. The film also had its UK premiere at this month BFI London Film Festival, which Curzon picked up the distribution rights with the film heading to cinemas across the UK and exclusively on Curzon Home Cinema in February 2022.

The film is told mostly through animation, weaving together a stunning tapestry of images and memories to tell the deeply affecting story of a man grappling with his traumatic past in order to find his true self and the real meaning of home. Pushing the boundary of the documentary hybrid form, Flee breaks bold new ground in animation and confessional narrative with a story that holds profound emotional heft.

There’s no Official UK Trailer released just yet, however there is an U.S Trailer you can check that out below…

Amin Nawabi (a pseudonym), a 36-year-old high-achieving academic, grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, one that threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon to be husband. Recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, his close friend and high-school classmate, he tells for the first time the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan. Through heartfelt interviews between Jonas and Amin, FLEE tells an unforgettable story of self-discovery. Showing how only by confronting the past is it possible to carve out a future, and the universal truth that only when you stop fleeing from who you are can you find the true meaning of home.

Flee will be released in UK cinemas and exclusively on Curzon Home Cinema from 11th February 2022.
