First UK Trailer For Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Licorice Pizza

The filmmaker heads back to the 1970’s with Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s Son in co-lead.

Universal Pictures have debuted the official first UK Trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film The Licorice Pizza.

The filmmakers previous film was four years ago with Phantom Thread, he’s back behind the lens as he heads once again back to the 1970’s. Like many of his films there is still a sense of mystery behind what projects he has going and what they maybe about. This film doesn’t come with a synopsis, we do know the decade, who the cast are and unusual film title. Well it’s much better than the previous title of Soggy Bottom!

What we do know this will be a coming of age story with young actors Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman, the son of late actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The film is set in 1973 San Fernando Valley growing up, falling in love in the area. Following the success of a high school student (Hoffman) who was a successful child actor who struggles with school life and stardom.

It’s very much the location of Boogie Nights and it does have vibes of that film. It seems Bradley Cooper’s character infamous film producer Jon Peters becomes a friend/mentor the young lead with Haim his first true love/crush.

Fans of PTA will love this one looks like it has all the trimmings you expect from his films. Stylish, dramatic and nostalgic with an awesome trailer music from David Bowie with Life On Mars!

The cast also includes Maya Rudolph, Ben Stiller, John C. Reilly, Skyler Gisondo, Benny Safdie, Tom Waits, Sean Penn, and Christopher Walken.

There is no official UK or Irish cinema release date for The Licorice Pizza, just ‘Coming Soon’. The U.S release will be first a limited theatrical release first 26th November then general release 25th December.
