Dark Sky Films have released the Chillingly nihilistic (U.S) Trailer for upcoming low budget New Zealand horror thriller Coming Home In The Dark. The feature directorial debut of James Ashcroft, with a family trip gone awry that will make Wolf Creek look like a Disney film.

The film follows a teacher who is forced to confront a secret from his past when a pair of ruthless drifters take his family on a nightmare road-trip.

The film made it’s world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Many of the critics calling it ‘one of the most messed up films of the year‘ , Sundance calling it ‘nihilistic morality thriller‘. When it comes to genre fans that will be heaven for them like those heading to Arrow Video FrightFest later this month when it premieres in the UK. As we know films aren’t always about the entertainment value, it’s also the visceral experience they can provide too. On the evidence of this Trailer it will go to some seriously dark places…

Unbearably tense and ruthlessly bleak, director James Ashcroft’s electrifying thriller is an emotionally raw, out-of-control spiral into shock pulling no punches in showing the evil darkness that lurks within. All the Hoaganraad family want is a fun road trip through the beautiful New Zealand landscape. But no sooner have they laid out a lakeside picnic than two strangers come strolling up to their idyllic spot. Things quickly turn threatening then murderous as the clearly unhinged psychotic duo plainly has an agenda. But what exactly, how does it link to their hostages and what is the endgame for these cold-blooded lunatics?

The film stars Daniel Gilles, Erik Thomson, Miriama McDowell, Matthias Luafutu, and Billy Paratene.

There is no word on a UK or Irish release, however Coming Home In The Dark will make it’s European Premiere on 27th August at Arrow Video Frightfest. You can buy your tickets here.
